Beating the lefties

The Cubs are now 10-5 vs. lefty starters this year.

The previous couple of years, the Cubs always struggled against the left handed starting pitchers. I don’t know if it was just a statistical anomaly, but the record is much better this year. Personally, I think the Cubs are doing better because they are taking more pitches and drawing more walks.

I just don’t like Kerry Wood

Yeah, I know Kerry is a favorite of a lot of Cubs fans, but I’m not one of those people. Maybe it is just my view on things, but it seems that he can not be counted on in pressure situations.

Bury the lead

This is now a couple of days old, but I read a lot of Cubs stuff online, and I haven’t read this cool quote until now. Andy Dolan at desipio.com writes:

A lot of us couldn’t figure out why Lou would pinch run for Derrek Lee with one out in a one run game on Wednesday night in Denver… Lou explained that Rockies pitcher Manny Corpas tries to pitch with a slide step when there’s a basestealer on, and not only does Manny struggle with it, but he can’t throw his slider very well without his normal stride. Felix went in, Manny went to the slide step, E-ramis sat on the fastball and homered. How cool is that?

Insert Dusty comment here.

Andy buried this nugget in Felix Pie’s writeup. But, if it was me, I would put it at the top of the list in Lou’s season summary. Lou is the best manager that the Cubs have seen in a long time!

Another 8th inning blowout

Cedeno sure looks good at this point, no? Read the rest of this entry »

How about the offense?

The Cubs win their third blowout in a row. I can’t remember the last time this happened.

Sure, tonight’s game wasn’t out of reach until the 8th. But, the Cubs led all game, and this just felt like a game the Cubs would win. Zambrano was dominant on the mound.

Lets get b2b sweeps tomorrow.

Friday Night Notes

The Cubs beat the Pirates 3-2. Cubs lefty starters get their first win of the season (Rich Hill). Kerry did a nice job in the 9th to get his fourth save. Read the rest of this entry »

Reds 9, Cubs 2

Ted Lilly isn’t very good…

Cubs 12, Reds 3

Cubs win in a laugher. Zambrano looked great on the mound and at the plate.

I was at the game tonight. Perfect baseball weather - especially for April. The Cubs scored a bunch of runs early off of Josh Fogg. Not much to write about, lets hope the offense continues scoring runs. I liked the lineup tonight, I have a feeling we will see this one again.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t get the cameraphone thing worked out. As a result, no in-game pictures. I’ll see if I can get it working for the next game I go to.

Cubs 9, Reds 5

The Cubs are back in town and so is the warm weather. With the wind blowing out, the Cubs got homers from Lee, Derosa and Theriot. It was nice to see the Cubs hitters banging the ball around. Read the rest of this entry »
